Job Positions after Science Stream

By taking up science in the respective subjects, you have the options to become Physicist, Meteorologists, Oceanographers, Mathematics, Statisticians, Geologists, Geophysicists, Geographers, Geographic Specialists, respectively. In the Chemical industry the appointments of Organic Chemists, Inorganic Chemists, Physical Chemists, Analytical chemists, Industrial Chemists, Chemical Engineers, Chemical Engineering Technicians, Chemical Technicians are made. In Biological field there is a scope for becoming Bio-technologists, Genetic Scientists, Biochemists, Microbiologists, Anthropologists, botanists, Zoologists.

Jobs in the Defence Services broadly consists of Army; Navy, Air Force and the paramilitary forces comprise Central Reserver Police Force, Border Security Force, ITBP, CISF, Coast Guard, etc.

In the aviation field you can prepare to become a Pilot Officer or for jobs at the airports which comprise Air Traffic Controller, Airport Manager, Communication Officer, Communication Assistant, Aerodrome Officer, Aerodrome Officer, Aerodrome Assistant, Airworthiness Officer, etc. In Airlines, posts of Airline Pilot, Helicopter pilot, Flight Supervisors, Pursuers, Air Hostesses, Flight attendants etc. exist. Aeronautical Engineers, Aircraft Mechanics/ Aircraft Maintenance Engineers are appointed in the technical and engineering Division. In the commercial operations division, Ground Duty officers are appointed. Aerospace Engineers, Aeronautical and Aerospace technicians are appointed in the aircraft manufacturing units.

Deck officers, Engineering officers, Radio officers, Stewards, Navigating officers, Marine engineers etc. are appointed in Merchant Navy. In the Shipping sector posts of Traffic Clerks, Stevedores and Superintendents, Pier Superintendents are offered.

In para Medical you can go Medical Technology, Radiography, Physical and Occupational Therapy, Optometry, Nursing, Orthotic & Prosthetic Technology, Speech Therapy, Audiology etc.

The job of Home Economists, Nutritionists and Dieticians, Food Technologists can be taken up after studying Home Science and Food Technology.

Another option is to graduate in a subject of you choice i.e Bachelor of Science (Pass/ Hons.). After graduation you may continue with your studies especially if you are interested in higher education. Post graduate courses are available in most of the science subjects including Biotechnology, Nuclear Physics, Space Physics, Geology, Marine Geology, Mineral Exploration, Hydro-geology, Oceanography, Meteorology, Computer and Information Technology. Or you may choose a field from the career opportunities available after graduation.

Secondly, nowadays it is the almost essential that one has to face tough competition  for getting admission into any professional, vocational and prestigious course – be it admission to Medical, Dental, Para Medical ( like nursing, Pharmacy, etc.) Engineering, Architecture, Hotel Management, Law or National Defence Academy and Naval Academy, Merchant Navy, Special Class Railway Apprentices exams etc. It is necessary to bear in mind the perticular course/ institute to which one wants to get admitted and to start preparing well in advance.

A large number of coaching institutes, both regular and correspondence, are offering preparation facilities. Here, a little care is needed to go in for an institute which has a good track record of achievements, qualified and experience facility and is professional in approach.

Third career option in India is to prepare for  direct recruitment in a Bank,Insurance Company, Defence Forces, Para Military forces, or other competitive examinations conducted by Staff Selection Commission, New Delhi or State Staff Selection Commission for various jobs. Competition is also very tough here and hard work with consistency is needed for success.

The fourth option is to go for self employment by starting your own business like opening your own shop, running your own business like opening your own shop, running your own factory, trading of goods etc. To be successful in this field one needs to possess entrepreneurial qualities. Some of these are knowledge of the particular line of business you want to enter, confidence, leadership, good communication skills, ability to work hard, risk bearing capacity, far-sightedness, ability to manage your time and our staff well, to get along with people comfortably, and preferably a good personality.

In addition, you need to make investment. But those having meagre financial resource can also start from a shoe string budget and with their efforts their business gradually and ultimately make it big. Financial assistance is also made available by State Financial Corporations, Banks and Organisations related to promotion of small scale industries etc.

Architecture and Planning as a Career

Till recently, the diploma, degree, and postgraduate degree programmes in architecture and planning were regulated jointly by the AICTE and the Council of Architecture (COA) ( India Habitat Centre, Core 6-A, First Floor, Lodi Road New Delhi 110 003). The CoA was established under Architects Act, 1972 to regulate the architect profession and related matters. In accordance with the section 21 of the Act, the CoA had formulated the Council of Architecture (Minimum Standards of Architecture Education) Regulation, 1983, which provides among others, course contents, periods of study and subjects of examinations, qualifications requirements for faculty positions. The AICTE Act, 1987 also provides for representation of the CoA on its council. However, in December 2003, for reasons unknown even to the architecture profession, all the functions relating to establishment of new institutions and accrediting courses have been taken over by the AICTE. Thus, CoA has no role in formulating policy on planning in respect of architecture education. Its task is limited only to regulate the professional conduct of practising architects. The Associate Membership of the Indian Institute of Architects, and the institute of Town Planners, India are treated as equivalent to degrees in architecture and planning, respectively.
